Meet Our Bride: Lynn

I had the experience of going to a chain bridal store prior to my appointment at Madeleine's Daughter. There wasn't anything negative that happened at the other store, but there wasn't anything spectacular either. When my Mother and I arrived at Madeleine's we instantly felt something. The store itself is super cute and all the ladies there do an excellent job at making sure you feel welcome. For me I had yet to experience "that feeling" and wasn't sure it was something I would. Sure enough after explaining my vision to Kristin and trying a couple dresses on, it hit me. She slipped "the dress" over my head and instantly I understood what everyone talks about. I loved my experience at Madeleine's Daughter and felt they offered something spectacular that every bride should feel.

Nail the Veil!

In our Finishing Touches appointments, we often observe how it can be more difficult for the bride to choose her veil than it was to say yes to the dress! Honestly, it's a common situation because most brides are shopping for a veil for the first time in their lives, so it's reasonable to expect a bit of a learning curve.

We covered the different lengths and edgings of veils recently, but thought we'd review this topic because it's such a frequent discussion here! Also, you might know all the terminology, but even so, it can be tricky to pair the perfect veil to your dress.

Here are some basic veil "rules" to follow:

1.) The more formal your gown, the longer the veil should be.
2.) The longer the veil, the longer (and leaner) you will look.
3.) Always shop for your veil with your gown on. It's impossible to choose a veil when you're wearing jeans. It just is.

Other than that, just follow your instincts! You'll know if you love it or hate it once you try it on, so be open to all lengths and edgings to start. And if you need help, just book a Finishing Touches appointment and we'll find the perfect veil for you then!

For some inspiration, take a look at some of our past brides and their choices- you might see something you love!

First, we'll show you the brides who opted for a "short" veil, meaning fingertip length or shorter:

And now for the "long" veils- anything longer than fingertip length, we consider "long."

Regardless of which length you prefer, you HAVE to agree that a veil adds a touch of drama that no other accessory can match! When brides say to us that they don't want to wear a veil, we always encourage them to just try one on. And guess what? The majority of the time, they completely change their minds and end up wearing one! It's one thing that can really make you feel like a bride (if the white gown isn't enough- lol)!

We hope you've enjoyed this post about veils. What are your thoughts on wearing one? Leave us a comment and tell us what you think!

Meet Our Bride: Kathleen

My experience at Madeleine's Daughter was amazing from start to finish! I went to a bunch of bridal boutiques in NYC where I live, but when I walked into Madeleine's I immediately started feeling nervous because I had a feeling I would find my dress. Brandie was my stylist, she listened to what I wanted and brought me EXACTLY what I described. The first dress she handed me was the dress I bought! During the whole veil shopping and alterations process I had the pleasure of working with Renee. Renee has the perfect combo of a great sense of style and a great personality so she was extremely helpful and fun to work with. Honestly the whole experience was a blast.  Everyone was friendly and helpful, beautiful private salon rooms that make you feel like a special bride and exceptional service. I'm ready to come back and buy another dress for when we renew our vows!

Meet Our Bride: Stephanie

Don't you just love our "Meet Our Bride" posts here on the blog? They've become so popular, we decided to post them more frequently. Normally, we post on Saturdays only for this series, but we've decided to surprise our readers with the occasional "bonus" post! We hope you enjoy this!

Today, we'd love for you to meet Stephanie!

My experience at Madeleine's Daughter was wonderful, from start to finish!  My consultant, Brandie was incredibly nice and friendly, and before she started pulling dresses for me to try on she sat down with me and discussed what I was looking for in a gown.  As I tried on each of the first few dresses she pulled, she paid close attention to what I liked and did not like about the dress, and with that information, she came back with my dress.  I think it was only the fourth dress I tried on, and it was absolutely perfect!  It was exactly what I had imagined but wouldn't even know how to describe to her.  I also got my alterations done at Madeleine's Daughter, and that experience was simple and painless.  I always felt that my dress was being exceptionally cared for, and each time I came in for a fitting I was so excited to see it and try it on again.  My dress was flawless when I picked it up for the big day!  Thank you Madeleine's Daughter!

By the Sea

Whether it's a preppy, nautical-themed wedding on the seacoast of New England or a tropical destination in the Pacific, our brides LOVE their weddings by the sea (or a lake). Take a look at this fun gallery of photos of weddings on the water. We know you are going to love all this inspiration!

Meet Our Bride: Kate

I had a great experience at Madeleine's Daughter. A friend from college recommended I try the shop. I was living in Boston at the time and it was my first wedding dress shopping trip. I scheduled it while my family was visiting so that my mother, sister, and two sister-in-laws could share the experience with me. When we arrived we met McKenzie, who was very upbeat, stylish and fun. I had a good feeling right after meeting her. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, but went through 10 or 11 dresses without finding the one. McKenzie took me in the back and I saw it. I knew I would love it, just from seeing it through the plastic cover. Once I had it on, I started tearing up. I knew it was the one and my family loved it as well. It was so beautiful and looked vintage with the champagne satin underneath. I really liked that it was not white on white. We bought the Marisa gown and eventually had it shipped to San Francisco. Dave and I got married on September 28th, at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA, and everything went perfectly. The dress fit beautifully, and many guests asked about it. I wish I could wear it everyday! I hope that one day a member of our family will wear it, maybe my daughter (if I have one), or one of my beautiful nieces. It really is timeless and I couldn't be happier with my selection.
