Meet Our Bride: Ashley

Once again, we have a stunningly beautiful bride to post on our blog and we're so excited to share her photos with you. Ashley looked incredible on her wedding day and we couldn't be happier for her.

First off I’d love to thank the wonderful ladies at Madeleine's Daughter for finding my dream dress. The girls went above and beyond for me and made sure my wedding dress experience was amazing and one to remember for a lifetime. I got the pleasure of working with a wonderful bridal consultant, she listened to my ideas and wants and pulled a dress that caught my eye as I was walking through the bridal salon. It was like she knew what dress to pull without me even mentioning this eye catcher. My beautiful dress was made by Watters. I knew the dress was The One the moment I put it on. I remember counting down the days for my fitting and alterations, I looked so forward to being able to be there with these lovely ladies and seeing my dress. I will always recommend Madeleine's Daughter to every bride I meet. Thanks again to everyone who helped make my wedding such a special memory.

If you're a Madeleine's Daughter bride who would like to be featured on our blog, please email us today with your photos and story!

Bliss Trunk Show

Monique Lhuillier is the quintessential bridal gown designer with nearly every other designer following her lead when it comes to setting trends. She is worn on the red carpet constantly by some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, so it's understandable that her bridal gowns would be so coveted and admired by brides around the world. Unfortunately, not every bride is able to purchase a gown that costs several thousand dollars and there's nothing more upsetting than falling in love with a gown that is outside of your budget. Fortunately, for those brides who would like to spend closer to $2,000-$3,000 as opposed to $6,000 and up, there is the Monique Lhuillier Bliss Collection. This line is designed for a more moderate price point, but still has all the glamour and detail of Monique's other bridal line.

We are one of the only stores in New England to carry both the Monique Lhuillier bridal line as well as her Bliss Collection and for one weekend this year we will be hosting a trunk show for Bliss right in our store! April 25-27th, we will have an amazing sampling of the Bliss Collection here for our brides to view and try on. It's an incredible opportunity for anyone who would like to see more of this particular collection.

If you are looking for a specific Bliss dress, please feel free to call our shop to see if it will be part of the trunk show. We'd love to help you pick out the perfect Bliss gown for your wedding! Call today or visit our website to book your appointment for one of the most coveted trunk shows of the year!

Special Bridal Tokens

Princess Diana made the idea of bridal tokens famous by having a small blue bow sewn into her gown along with a small 18-karat gold horseshoe studded with diamonds. Both of these were sewn in for good luck, the bow being her "something blue" and the horseshoe simply a good luck symbol.

At Madeleine's Daughter, we make a small bridal token gift for each of our brides in the form of a custom blue monogram:

Here's an example of the custom monogram after being sewn into the bride's gown.
Sometimes, as much as our brides might like our small token gift, they have another idea of their own for something special they'd like sewn into the dress. We're always happy to oblige, of course.
One of our brides brought in her late mother's wedding gown. She asked us to sew a piece of it into her dress. We cut it into the shape of a heart, embroidered it with her mother's name and sewed it into the dress over the bride's heart.
Another time, one of our brides had the lovely surprise of finding a heart-shaped cut-out of her late father's logo from one of his t-shirts sewn into her dress. Her sister coordinated with us so that it was already in the dress when she came in for her first fitting. When that sister got married, we did the same for her and sewed a similar heart-shaped logo from yet another of their late father's t-shirts.
Not having a parent at your wedding can be very difficult and while the token will never take their place, it is nice to know they are represented in some way and that a small piece of them can be with the bride throughout such an important day.

It's not always a parent that is missing, however. One of our brides was sad that her late brother would not get to see her on this special day. This time we embroidered a t-shirt of his with his name, cut it out in the shape of a heart and sewed it next to the monogram we'd made for her.

It's also not uncommon to have small pieces of jewelry sewn into the gown such as a pendant from a family necklace, an heirloom pin or a grandparent's wedding ring. Regardless of what it is, don't hesitate to ask your seamstress to sew it into the gown.
Are you an MD bride who had something special sewn into her dress? Send us a picture and tell us the story. We'd love to feature you on the blog!

Meet Our Bride: Anastasia

It's Saturday, so you know what that means! It's time to meet another Madeleine's Daughter bride. These are REAL brides- every single one of them. It's hard to believe sometimes, because a lot of these photos look good enough for a magazine, but the truth is that these are OUR amazing, beautiful brides in every one of these posts. If you are a Madeleine's Daughter bride who wants to share her experience, be sure to email us today! But in the meantime, meet Anastasia:

McKenzie was amazing from beginning to end.  She was professional, funny, honest, and very knowledgable.  I came in with a variety of different ideas and she did an amazing job helping me narrow down my choices and assisted me in picking out a dress that not only fit my body perfectly but also my budget.  To top it off, a few weeks before my wedding, I decided to change my veil choice.  I was able to get an appointment very last minute with McKenzie, and she was amazing in helping me pick out a new veil weeks before the wedding.
Overall my experience with Madeleine's Daughter was excellent and most importantly stress free!! Thank you to the entire staff!

Why Not Buy a Bridal Gown Online?

We live in an era of convenience where there is not question that can't be answered by pulling out our phones and asking Google. Any product we see ina  store, we are almost certainly able to find online cheaper/faster/closer/etc. I've personally scanned a barcode at a store and had the same item purchased online for $18 less before I even left the store! (I know, I'm not proud of this.) Now, this is where I'm going to tell you exactly why you do NOT want to do this with your bridal gown.

1.) You don't know what you're actually going to get. If a designer dress is beign sold new for a fraction of the price that a bridal salon is selling it for, IT IS NOT THE SAME DRESS! Designers allow their dresses to be sold by authorized vendors only. As authorized vendors, we are all contractually obligated  to charge what they tell us to charge. We also have to abide by whatever other rules/restrictions they set. No authorized retailer is EVER allowed to sell dresses online. In other words, if it's available online, it's probably not from an authorized retailer. They may have something that looks very similar, but it will not be the same dress. In fact, the reason the dress looks exactly the same is because the fraudulent site has pirated the photo from the designer's website.

2.) Purchasing a used wedding gown is slightly less risky when it comes to the integrity of the seller. You can be almost certain that what you intend to buy is what you will get. The danger here is that you don't know what condition it will be in when you get it. Most bridal pictures that will be provided from the original owner will be taken before the reception is over. Ladies, these dresses are long! They get stepped on, tripped over, dragged through mud and grass, and pretty much beat up by the end of the ngiht. They certainly can be cleaned and repaired, but they will rarely be in the same condition as a new dress.

3.) Your bridal gown will be the most custom-tailored garment you will ever put on in your life. It will fit you like a second skin once all is said and done. These dresses are designed to be altered and can be brought in three full sizes or typically let out a little bit. However, these dresses are not designed to do this twice. If you purchase a dress that was custom altered to another bride, it will never be able to fit you exactly. The original seamstress usually clips any extra fabric out of the seams after she alters them, so adjusting them a second time can become an issue.

Ultimately, while it may be tempting to save some money while planning this massively expensive day, try to cut corners somewhere else. Choose a less expensive venue, have a smaller bouquet, hire a DJ instead of a band. When purchasing a bridal gown online, the risks far outweigh the savings.

Meet Our Bride: Vanessa

Every bride is truly special and we always want our brides to feel that way, no matter what. We're so happy to hear that we accomplished that for Vanessa and we're even happier to see how stunning she looked on her wedding day!

Madeline’s Daughter was a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in till the moment I walked down the isle. I had been dreaming of my wedding day since I was a little girl and most importantly about my wedding dress. When I called Madeline’s to set up an appointment they had a way of making me feel special even over the phone. When the day came to pick out my dress I was very nervous, I wanted to make sure I got “The One”. My bridal consultant, McKenzie, was able to help me find what I was envisioning and pick my dream gown.

Everyone I worked with from the receptionists to the seamstress always made feel like I was the only bride in the store. I felt like my day and my dress were the most important things to all of them, I never felt like just another customer. When I was waiting for my dress I became worried that maybe it wasn’t the right one. McKenzie took the time to talk to me and assured me that a lot of brides go through this. I was even told if I needed to come back in and put it on again so I could remember how beautiful it was I could. Everyone at Madeline’s had a way of making me feel better when ever I became nervous, which is so important since the dress is such a big deal for so many brides.

I left Madeline’s with a gorgeous gown that was perfect for me. I felt so amazing in my dress on my wedding day. I felt like a princess. Everyone commented on how stunning my dress was especially my husband!!

Did you have an amazing experience finding your dream gown at Madeleine's Daughter? Email us today and tell us all about it!

Meet Our Bride: Sonja

We hope you're enjoying this year's group of real Madeleine's Daughter brides. Check back every Saturday to see which one we've featured! This week is Sonja who looked absolutely stunning in her Pronovias gown:

It was an absolutely amazing experience working with the ladies at Madeleine's Daughter. I had no idea what I was looking for in a dress, so the best thing for me to do was just try on a bunch of styles. My consultant, Kerry, was very patient and so sweet, and finally the last dress she pulled for me was the one! It was the Georgia gown by Pronovias. The ordering process was smooth, and the dress was in right on time. It fit like a glove which was great, but the proportions were off in the torso. I'm pretty tall and slender, so the small size of the dress had a shorter length torso. My seamstress, Cheryl, had her work cut out for her. She literally had to deconstruct then reconstruct the top portion of the dress. When I tried it on after that, visually nothing had changed, but it was amazing how much better the fit was. I was able to comfortably wear the dress early morning through the evening, and I really didn't want to take it off at all. I had it preserved immediately. My wedding dress was a beautiful, classic style, that I hope some day my daughter (due in July 2012) can wear on her wedding day. Thank you so much to all the ladies at Madeleine's.
