What EVERY Wedding Needs...

Most of the things every wedding needs seem pretty obvious- a happy couple, special wedding attire, flowers, great food, music, etc. But there are lots of little details and things that you might have forgotten. Things like a sewing kit, double-sided tape, stain remover, etc. Fortunately for you, there are all sorts of these "Wedding Day Emergency Kits" available, but so many of them are not only very expensive ($60+!!), but they come in big, cumbersome tool-box-esque containers that are far from subtle.

That's why we were so happy to find this amazing wedding emergency kit that we now carry in our store:

Not only is everything contained in a dainty, ivory bridal clutch that any bridesmaid could carry without looking conspicious, but it's surprisingly full of all sorts of helpful goodies. Check it out:

Can you believe how much fits into that tiny little bag? Here's the breakdown:

Stain Removing Wipe
Deodorant Wipe
Sewing Kit
Static Guard
Double-sided Fashion Tape
Hair Elastic
Bobby Pins
Chalk (for covering marks on a white/ivory gown)
Tissues
Nail File
Lint Removing Sheets
Oil Blotting Papers
Spare Rings
Straw
Garter

Despite having so much inside it, there is still plenty of room inside the clutch for other necessities that might be specific to your bridal party. Another thing that's so great about so many of the items in this kit is that they will be useful long after the big day. What girl doesn't need oil blotting papers in her purse? Or lint removing sheets? Or how about stain or deodorant removers? Seriously- this isn't just a wedding day emergency kit, it's a LIFE emergency kit! We only have a few left in the store- they are flying out of here! Stop in soon to get yours so you aren't stuck in a pickle on the big day (or any day).

Did you have a Wedding Day Emergency Kit on your big day? Did it get used? What items proved to be invaluable? Leave a comment below and tell us all about it!

Meet Our Bride: Jennifer

Continuing the "Meet Our Bride" series this week is Jennifer who had a custom gown ordered for her big day.

My experience at Madeleine's Daughter could not have been better.  After trying on only 5 or 6 dresses I had found the one - almost!  I selected two Sassi Holford dresses. I  fell in love with the cut of one dress and the fabric of the other.  The staff at Madeleine's made a call to the designer and I was able to get my custom dream dress which combined my favorite elements of each dress.  It was somewhat of a leap of faith because I couldn't see what my dress would look like until after it was made.  But it was worth it!  The dress was more beautiful than I imagined.  I chose a ball gown because it was the style that made me feel the most like a bride.  The texture and color of the fabric was so elegant and Madeleine's Daughter had a beaded belt in the store that matched perfectly.  I also purchased my veil at the shop and again it was a perfect match and exactly what I was looking for.

My mother also purchased her dress for the wedding at Madeleine's Daughter and she looked beautiful on the big day!

Everyone was very kind at Madeleine's Daughter and I felt very  welcome and relaxed.  The dressing rooms were lovely and very comfortable.  Wedding dress shopping is a once in a lifetime experience and I'm so glad I found my dress at Madeleine's Daughter.  The day I found my dress was a very special and memorable day - it was so great, it almost felt too easy!  I will remember my time at Madeleine's Daughter (and the celebratory margaritas next door) fondly!

Thank you for helping to make my wedding day perfect!

Meet Our Bride: Gail

This weeks featured bride was so much fun to have in the store. We all genuinely looked forward to seeing her come in for her appointments. And now that her wedding is passed, we all miss seeing her smiling face in our shop. Readers, meet our lovely bride Gail.

Let me just say that I LOVED my experience with Madeleine's.  I knew the moment I met Sadie that Madeleine's would be the place for me.  Admittedly so...I went to Madeleine's and had a great experience...and afterwards, reluctantly kept my other points at all the other "fancy" bridal shops on Newbury Street.  All I have to say is...there is a big reason I returned to Madeleine's - primarily, because I felt SO comfortable there and because Sadie was so fabulous to my mom and I during our first visit.  When I went to those "fancy" shops - the staff were pushy, rushed, and somewhat rude.  Not to mention...I was not given a private room to try on the gowns...and the stories were dirty (yuck!  NOT a good place to be trying on WHITE dresses!!).  Sadie just got me right away...she immediately grasped my style: simple and elegant.  I didn't even have to tell the dress I had in mind...she brought it out during the first round of trying on gowns (the simple, Monique Lhuillier I had been dreaming about forever!).  I knew I found "the dress" when my mom got teary and Sadie gave me a giant hug.  The experience was relaxed and fun.  All my subsequent visits for my fittings were just as fun - Renee, Cheryl, and the whole crew always gave me big hugs when I visited the shop.  They were so nice and welcoming to everyone I brought along to my fittings - I really looked forward to my visits to the shop!  The girls always called me "their favorite bride" - I'm sure they had lots of favorite brides in 2011...but, it always gave me a smile to hear them say that!  Two days before my wedding when I made my final visit to the shop - to pick up my gown with my sister - I have to say, was sad.  I really connected with the Madeleine's team and was a little bummed that my visits to the shop were over.  I loved my gown...it fit me, my venue, and my wedding day perfectly....most of all, it was comfortable!  I still have yet to preserve my dress...because when no one is home, I still put it on time to time and check it out in the mirror :)  My dress tells a story...and I thank everyone at Madeleine's for helping create that story.

Meet Our Bride: Emily

This week, we'd like to introduce you to our bride Emily:

I picked Madeleine's Daughter because a few of my friends had told me to check it out.  Being in the Boston area, I'm surrounded by boutiques and other shops, but really felt inclined to listen to my friends!  When I went there, the store was great!  Kerry, who was my bridal consultant, really truly listened to me!  She brought me dresses I was really liked, even though I didn't even know what I wanted in the first place!  Eventually, we narrowed it down to my dream gown.  Through out the process, Kerry was amazing.  She would email me to check in and follow through with phone calls.  I cannot express how much fun the experience was!  Kerry always had a smile on her face and I felt like I could rely on her a lot which was very helpful during this process!  Overall the store is a great place but it's the customer service that truly sets Madeleine's Daughter aside from their competition!

The ONE Thing Every Bridal Party Forgets

In our experience, we've heard that there is ONE item that nearly every bridal party seems to forget about until the last minute. It seems like such a simple thing, but bridesmaids and brides are both notorious for forgetting to get a CLUTCH!!!

It seems silly, I know. But with all the details that go into planning a wedding, the bride often forgets to get a clutch for herself and the bridesmaids pretty much always forget. And then there they all are at the venue and no one has a pretty little bag for holding their lipstick and double-sided tape. There are handbags everywhere, but it's everyone's everyday bags- the big leather satchels and the cross-body messengers and pretty much everything that is casual and totally inappropriate for an event as formal as a wedding.

As the bride, one way to avoid this issue is to use this opportunity to gift your bridesmaids a clutch that will look great next to the bridesmaid dress they'll be wearing. Try to find one that they can use again, perhaps something they'll use on a date or when they are a guest at another wedding in the future. Don't worry about giving matching bags to all your girls- find ones that suit their personality and that will help ensure they'll actually be able to use them again.

Meet Our Bride: Elizabeth

As we start the new year, we're very excited to continue the "Meet Our Bride" series that has become so popular on our blog. We can't say enough how much we love to hear from our brides and see photos from their wedding day. If you are a Madeleine's Daughter bride and you would like to be featured here on our blog, or in our store, please email us today!

Our first bride that we are featuring this year is Elizabeth and she looked absolutely stunning!

My experience at Madeleine's daughter was nothing short of wonderful.  The store is beautiful - just what you would hope for in your bridal shopping experience.  The people that work there are all very kind and helpful.

When I arrived for my appointment, I was introduced to my bridal consultant, Kerry.  I explained my style and what I hoped to find in my bridal gown.  She brought out a dress that was exactly what I was looking for!  It couldn't have been more perfect!  The second I tried it on, I knew it was "the one."

My seamstress was also fantastic.  She was the nicest lady and you could tell she's been doing this for a long time. Numerous people told me that this dress was made for me, and I truly feel like it was.

I couldn't imagine going anywhere other than Madeleine's and I hope all bride's have the same experience that I did.

Featured Bridal Vendor: Rivermill at Dover Landing

There are so many venues to choose from in New England- we have everything from quaint seaside lighthouses to grand mansions and everything in between. In the wedding planning process, it's one of the first and most important decisions you will make. There are a lot of factors to consider when selecting your venue, but I think one of the most important things to consider is the staff. A venue with a professional, seasoned, capable staff will keep your day running smoothly from start to finish. We've had quite a few brides get married at the Rivermill at Dover Landing. The space is gorgeous, the staff is amazing and their specialty is weddings.

Many venues restrict the vendors you are able to use, so if you have a specific vision, or even your own DIY details to add, you'll find there aren't a lot of places that will accommodate you. The Rivermill is the opposite. Whatever your vision, they will help you achieve it. It's the perfect venue for a bride who wants to hand-pick her own vendors (including the caterer) to make her wedding special.

Here's a little more info:

At Rivermill, we believe that every event should be a unique expression of its host's personality, message or ideals. With this thought in mind, we invite you to choose your own seating plan, d├ęcor, entertainment and even your own caterer. Select one of our preferred partners, bring in your own vendors, or work with our experienced staff to find that elusive, defining component. Whatever the occasion, we’ll help you create the perfect atmosphere in which to welcome your special guests.

With lofty ceilings, 1800s brick-and-beam architecture and tall, arched windows offering views of the Cochecho River, Henry Law Park and Dover's historic City Hall clock tower, Rivermill is distinctive enough to stand on its own, or it can serve as a blank canvas on which to paint your entertainment masterpiece.

So whether you're looking for a traditional reception, a classic New England lobster bake, a black tie formal or a distinctive themed event of your own creation, Rivermill provides the ideal setting to make your dream a reality.

The website is full of useful information including floor plan templates, event services, planning guides, menus, prices, and a beautiful gallery of real wedding and event photos.
