Meet Our Bride: Maygan

When we hear back from our brides about their experience here, there are certain things we never tire of hearing. Most of all, we want to hear this: "I loved my dress!"

Of course, when brides like Maygan email us with more praise than that, we welcome those remarks, too!

Here's what Maygan has to say: “I had a wonderful experience at Madeleine’s Daughter.   I LOVED my wedding dress!  My consultant was fun and really listened to what I wanted.  I even came back and worked with her again to choose a second dress to change into at the reception. Thanks again!”

Are you a bride who absolutely LOVED her dress? Then we want to hear from you, too! Email us today to tell us all about what you loved so much about it!

Wedding Curveballs: Delayed Dress

It's nearly always a shock when we tell our brides that it can take up to six months for a wedding gown to come in. At certain times of the year, it can take even longer. Nearly all the wedding dresses that we carry in our store are made to order- they are not sitting in a warehouse somewhere just waiting to be purchased. That is why it can take several months for the dress to come in. Without going into all the boring minutiae of what happens when ordering a wedding gown (paperwork, cutting, sewing, beading, etc.), not to mention the various processes and excentricities of various designers, let's talk about how to avoid the wedding curveball of the dreaded delayed dress.

The best way to avoid dealing with rush fees for ordering or altering a dress is to find it well in advance. Shop for your gown at least a year before the wedding. Begin by looking at the designers and dress styles you like. Make an appointment to try some of the dresses on and let our experienced consultants help narrow down your choices. Once you've found "the One," stop looking and order it! If it takes the full six months to come in, then ordering it a year in advance will still give you six additional months to narrow down your accessories and order them as well. Finally, we always reserve at least three months for the alterations process. In other words, add three more months to the six months it takes for the dress to come in and you've got the bare minimum number of months to order the dress.

For all of you out there who are getting married in less than 9 or 10 months and who just freaked out because you don't have your dress, don't stress out completely. There are still plenty of options for you:
- Consider purchasing a sample dress off the rack- instead of waiting six months, you'll have your dress by the end of your appointment!
- Add a rush to the dress order. Usually, this gets the dress here a couple of weeks sooner, and every little bit helps!
- Have the alterations done in less time- you may pay a small rush fee here as well, but you'll also have peace of mind!

Whether your wedding is two years down the road or two weeks from today, there IS a dress out there for you, so make an appointment at our shop today to come in and find yours!

Meet Our Bride: Nichole

At Madeleine's Daughter, we believe that from the first time you step through our doors, you should feel special and pampered. We want your shopping experience to fit with the emotions of this important time in your life. For Nichole, we were successful in making her feel that way:

Nichole shares: "I absolutely loved my experience at Madeleine’s Daughter. From the moment I walked in I felt like it was already my special day. I went in with my mind set on a certain style dress that I wanted and my consultant brought me that style dress along with a couple of styles I have never even thought about wearing. I didn’t think I would ever wear a strapless dress! The moment I tried on my dress I knew it was the one. My mother teared up and I just had to get it. Even after my wedding day, I can’t help but want to wear my dress again. The staff at Madeleine’s Daughter made my dream wedding perfect with the perfect dress."

Whether you left with the exact dress you pictured in your mind, or something completely different, we want to hear about it. Email us today and tell us about your experience finding your perfect dress.

Meet Our Bride: Emily

We have brides from literally all over the country. Alabama, Washington D.C., Oregon, California, Texas- to name a few. How do they end up on the seacoast of New Hampshire looking for a bridal gown? Well, most have a reason to be here, whether it's visiting family or friends, or even taking a business trip. It's often surprising to our out-of-town brides when they actually find "the one" so far from home. It happened to our bride Emily:

Here's how she tells it: “I live in San Francisco but I wanted to have the opportunity to do some wedding dress shopping with my mom, who lives in New Hampshire. I was sure that we'd just look at a few dresses, and I'd come back to SF to make my purchase. But that was before my consultant brought in exactly the dress I had been imagining and I noted that the price was way less than I would have paid for the same dress on the West Coast. Add to that the fact that I saved on sales tax and I was sold. The shopping experience was also really pleasant and hassle free. Thanks!”

Did you come to our store from a great distance and yet were shocked to actually find your dream dress? Tell us about it! We'd love to hear your story and of course see pictures from you big day. Email us today!

Juhree's Journal: Monique Lhuillier Trunk Show!

We host over a dozen trunk shows throughout the year, but there is one that our Store Manager Juhree looks forward to more than any other: Monique Lhuillier. She was nice enough to take a few minutes to tell you what exactly is so exciting about a Monique Lhuillier trunk show. Enjoy!

In all the years that I've been working here at Madeleine's Daughter, I never lose my excitement for a Monique Lhuillier trunk show. When we go to bridal market to see the new collections, hers is always one of my favorite shows, but having her dresses here in our store is even more exciting to me.

What makes Monique Lhuillier so special is that she is truly a trend-setter. Designs she developed years ago will inevitably be copied by so many other designers around the world over the following seasons, but in the end, nothing truly compares. Her gowns flatter a woman's body like no others and her textiles and trims are so luxurious. Wearing a Monique gown feels so different from any other- and it doesn't hurt that she LINES her dresses in silk, too!

Monique's designs are beautifully feminine and so flattering and when it comes to creating unique designs, she has definitely cornered the market. Her fabrics are so unique, but you have to see and feel them to believe it.

Juhree's clearly a fan of Monique, but what about you? If you're a fan and thinking of wearing a Monique gown for your wedding, call today to book your appointment for our trunk show. We'll have even more Monique gowns in the store specifically for this event on August 10-11, but only for those two days! The gown move on to the next trunk show somewhere else in the country after that weekend, so if you are looking for an opportunity to see as many Monique gowns as possible, this is your chance! Call us today- 603-431-5454!

Meet Our Bride: Tracey

Our bride Tracey emailed us to tell us about her experience at Madeleine's Daughter and we wanted to share it with all of you:

Here's her story: "My experience at Madeleine's Daughter was amazing! My consultant made that experience even better! She didn't pressure me into buying any dress and was patient. She had great advice, and helped me pick the perfect dress! I can't tell you how many compliments I got even to this day.  I also recommended Madeleine's Daughter to my best friend who also bought her dress there for her wedding!! I felt like a princess in my dress, and I will never forget how beautiful that day was for the both of us. Thank you Madeleine's Daughter!"

What was YOUR experience like shopping for your bridal gown? Did you stop there or did you also find your accessories and bridesmaid dresses here? What about your mother's dress? Email us today and tell us all about what it was like for you. We want to know!

Wedding Curveballs: Pregnant Bridesmaid

Every wedding will have certain aspects that don't go according to plan. When this happens, you have two choices:

1.) Throw a temper tantrum and cry all day to anyone who will listen.
2.) Face the problem with a positive attitude and ask for help from the people who know best.

Option #1 will always earn you the title of "Bride-zilla," but given how overwhelming it can be to plan a wedding, it's understandable why you may want to go that route. Option #2 is what every bride WANTS to do, but there are so many variables, that sometimes getting thrown a curveball can really be hard to handle even for the best of us.

One type of wedding-related curveball that we see all the time in our store is the pregnant bridesmaid. When we book a bridesmaid party, the consultant nearly always starts by asking, "Is anyone pregnant, or planning to be pregnant at the time of the wedding?" Getting pregnant can be a very personal and private experience, so even when confronted with the question, there's no guarantee the bridesmaid will come right out and admit it. In many cases, we often get a phone call later that week:

"Hi- I was in a few days ago picking out bridesmaid dresses for my friend's wedding, but I'm pregnant so now I don't know what to do."

Even worse is the phone call AFTER the bridesmaids have all ordered their dresses:

"Hi- I ordered a dress for my friend's wedding, but now I'm pregnant. I'll be six months along by the wedding date. What should I do?"

In the first case, the solution is simple: as the bride, you may want to tell that bridesmaid to order a maternity bridesmaid dress instead of the style you originally chose. Several of the lines we carry in our store offer maternity dresses in the same colors and fabrics as the other non-maternity designs:

Another alternative is to select a style dress with an empire waist and a loose-fitting skirt that will accommodate a baby bump, like these by Dessy:

If you know well in advance of your bridesmaid's pregnancy, it's easy to choose a dress that she will be comfortable wearing. Of course, it doesn't always work out that way. There are plenty of reasons why you may not know about her bun-in-the-oven until it's too late and the dresses have already been ordered. In that case, the challenge is a little bit tougher, but not impossible. Much like our store policy, most bridal shops will not take returns on special order dresses like bridesmaid dresses. It's also very difficult to change the size that your bridesmaid chose once an order has been submitted to the designer. Because of this, your pregnant bridesmaid may find herself with a dress that won't fit around her bump. Don't worry- even this type of situation isn't impossible to deal with.

In the hands of a capable seamstress, any dress can be taken apart, re-designed and put back together to accommodate just about anything. Sometimes, it's a simple matter of letting the dress out an inch or so to accommodate a small baby bump. In other cases, the dress may be way too tight and you will have to explore another alterative. For example, you could always order a couple of yards of matching fabric from the designer. Your bridesmaid could take her dress to a seamstress and actually have part of it re-designed to accommodate her growing bump. A straight skirt could be re-cut into a fuller silhouette, or the bodice can be re-cut to be slightly larger than the size ordered.

The seamstresses in our shop have encountered this type of situation over and over again. As long as it is possible to order extra fabric, there are endless possibilities to altering a dress for a pregnant bridesmaid.

Just remember: much like your wedding day, your bridesmaid's pregnancy is something to celebrate. Approach her the way you would want to be approached if the situation were reversed and you'll both end up happy on your wedding day.

Are you a bride who had a pregnant bridesmaid? How did you handle the situation? Maybe you're a bridesmaid who found out she was pregnant after the dresses were ordered. What did you end up wearing? Leave a comment below and tell us all about your experience!
