TWO Exciting Trunk Shows!!!

We're always very excited about the trunk shows that we host, but the two Essense of Australia and Martina Liana trunk shows that are coming up are really thrilling us. First, we have our standard trunk show with all the newest dresses by Essense of Australia and Martina Liana that will be held February 24-26. Then, we have what's called a Pre-Market Trunk Show just a week later March 2-4!

I know you're probably wondering, "What's a Pre-Market Trunk Show?" It's only one of the most exciting trunk shows we could possibly have! At a pre-market trunk show, you will have an opportunity reserved for only a handful of brides around the WORLD! There will be about 40-50 dresses here that weekend that haven't even walked down a runway yet. They are all the dresses being considered by that designer for the upcoming season. Of those dresses, only about half will be made available for purchase. However, at a pre-market trunk show, you will be able to purchase ANY of them regardless of whether or not they actually become available in stores. Here's the catch: you have to purchase the dress during the trunk show. But the payoff is unreal- you could potentially order a dress that will not be available to anyone else! Imagine finding an incredible dress and being the only bride in the world to wear it!

Because of the special nature of these trunk shows, be sure to book your appointment early- we have a limited number of open spots and you do not want to miss out on this opportunity. In addition to the dresses, these weekends are both part of our Bubbles events, which makes them even more special. A Bubbles event not only features champage for you to enjoy during your appointment, but there will also be other spectacular wedding vendors here to meet with you and help you with certain aspects of your wedding planning.

On February 24th, you'll be able to sample how tasty gluten free and allergy safe desserts can be with samples from The Sweet Tooth Bakery. You'll also be able to view stunning wedding photography from Focus Photography of Portland, ME. They'll even take photos of you in your gown! On March 3rd, you'll be able to savor the incredible chocolate truffle wedding favor options by E.Y. Delights and have fun striking a pose in a photo booth supplied by Main Event DJ Service. Check out our website for more information about our Bubbles events.

Meet Our Bride: Monique

Try as we might, there are sometimes things that go wrong when ordering dresses. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, we do our very best to make sure things are resolved to the brides' satisfaction. This was the case with our bride Monique and her bridesmaid dresses:

We'll let Monique tell the story: "Over the years, many brides I knew went to Madeleine's Daughter to purchase their wedding gowns, and I definitely understood why! When it was my turn as the bride I chose Madeleine's as my final bridal shop choice, as the friendliness, professionalism, knowledge, and atmosphere at Madeleine's was incomparable to any other shop I visited. My consultant was so easy to work with, very positive - and not at all pushy. She let me stay in my dress for as long as I needed before I made the final verdict that it was THE ONE. She also gave a lot of very honest and helpful advice about veils since my mother insisted on making mine. We used every one of her tips and the veil turned out perfect.

The most helpful part of my experience with Madeleine's was in regard to my bridesmaid dresses. The colors that were ordered for my original dresses did not turn out at all the way I anticipated. There was a mistake on the designer's end of things, and once we, as well as the staff at Madeleine’s, realized it, they made sure to have the designer send out new dresses free of charge and in a timely fashion. It was the best decision - as we received so many compliments on how gorgeous the bridal party looked, and how exceptional the colors were! I could not have had the perfect look for them without the help, patience, and persistence of the Madeleine's Daughter staff.

I had an unforgettable experience and cannot thank everyone there enough!"

We're so glad the colors worked out for Monique's bridesmaid dresses- the color scheme is so bold and bright! But let's not forget to mention how beautiful she looked, too!

If you're a Madeleine's Daughter bride and you would like to share a little about your experience, please email us today with your story and some photos!

What is a Trunk Show?

We recently announced our trunk shows that we've scheduled for 2012, but then we got some facebook comments asking "What IS a trunk show?" So today we're dedicating this post to explaining exactly what a trunk show is and what the benefits are of coming to our shop during a trunk show.

First and foremost, a trunk show is an opportunity for you to see a LOT of dresses by a specific designer, often dresses that are brand new. For a trunk show, the designer will send dresses to our store that are part of their most current collection. For example, we carry dresses by Pronovias in our store, but their collection is so large, we couldn't possibly carry every single dress they make. At a trunk show, there will be lots more dresses by the designer, sometimes as many as 40 or 50 additional dresses!

When we purchase sample gowns to have in our store, it's just not possible to carry every single dress by every single designer. Instead, our owner and store manager and some of our experienced sales staff will view the collections and decide which dresses to carry. The result is a store with about 500 samples for you to choose from. Despite the fact that our sample collection is HUGE, there are still plenty of dresses out there that brides want to see and try on. Trunk shows make that possible. Earlier this month, we had a trunk show featuring a new designer we're carrying- Nicole Miller. She sent us about three dozen dresses we don't normally have in our store:

In addition to lots of extra dresses, there is almost always at least one representative from the designer and sometimes the actual designer will be there, too! Often brides will have a minor change they would like to make to the dress. When we have the designer in the store to answer their questions about what can and cannot be done to a dress, it helps streamline the customization process. Also, it's really fun to meet the person who designed your dress!

In summary, if there is a designer you like and you want to have the opportunity to try on more of their dresses, a trunk show is the time to do that. However, in addition to the expanded selection and the opportunity to meet the designer, there are often incentives if you purchase your dress during the trunk show. For example, during our Maggie Sottero trunk show, we offered our brides 20% of the cost of the dress towards accessories! So, if the gown cost $1,000, we gave her $200 towards accessories. For every trunk show, the incentive will vary. Some will offer a discount on the dress, others towards accessories and some, like Nicole Miller will be given a huge discount on alterations.

Which one of our trunk shows are you most excited about attending now that you know all about what they entail? Leave a comment to tell us! Also, click here for a full list of our 2012 trunk show dates.

We're the Best- Because of YOU!

We are SO excited to announce that we are the winner of the Knot "Best of Weddings" for 2012! This is an especially exciting award for us because it comes from all of YOU! This is not an award given to us by our industry peers, but rather by the brides who have experienced our shop first hand.

What does this mean to you? It means you know we've earned this title from brides just like you. We have brides from all over the country, not just New England and it is their experiences that have earned us this title for the second year running. You can trust that this means your experience will be every bit as special as the brides who voted for us.

When you are a Madeleine's Daughter bride, you have a completely unique experience. You are paired with a bridal consultant and that consultant is with you until your wedding day. First, she helps you find your dream dress, but that is just the beginning. She can also help you pick out the perfect bridesmaid dress, and coordinating mothers dresses for your mom and your partner's mom. Once your dress comes in, you can book another appointment with her to pick out the perfect accessories to go with your dress. Jewelry, veils, undergarments- she will help you find all the right accessories to make your entire bridal look flawless.

Take the first step to happily ever after with the bridal shop you know is the best- Madeleine's Daughter!

Meet Our Bride: Bonnie

If there is one thing we've learned after so many years in the industry, no two weddings are alike. And no two brides are alike, either. Every bride is a unique and special individual and we love seeing how each brides' personality shines through in her dress and accessory choices. We often see two brides wearing similar dresses, but styled so differently that you might not even realize the similarities of their dresses. Sometimes the brides surprise themselves with their accessory choices, too! But that's what makes shopping in our store so fun and unique- your bridal consultant might make a suggestion you never would have thought of on your own. And once you try on that piece you have never considered before that moment, you might surprise yourself with how much you like it! Our bride Bonnie had an experience like that:

Bonnie was kind enough to not only send these stunning photos (by Jodi Yorston Photography), but she also shared a bit about her experience with us: “I had such a positive experience dress shopping at Madeleine's Daughter.  My consultant was wonderful!  We were married in St. John in July, so I was looking for a dress that wasn't too heavy but still had a bit of structure.  After listening to what type of wedding we were having and my likes and dislikes in terms of styles of dresses, she brought me about six dresses to try on and number three was "the one"!  I cried when I saw myself in it, and I hadn't come anywhere close to having that reaction with any of the other dresses I'd tried.  Later when I was looking for veils to complete the look, it was my consultant who suggested I try on a birdcage style veil, which I had never considered before.  I loved the effect! I was so pleased with how the whole look came together on my wedding day. I never felt more beautiful! Thank you!”

Bonnie's birdcage veil looks amazing and really highlights how stunning her bright green eyes are! It might not have been what she envisioned initially, but it's clear from the pictures that this look suits her. We really love hearing that our brides have been pleasantly surprised by the choices they made in our store. Are you such a bride? Do you have an interesting of funny story to share about your experience with us? We would love to hear it, so please email us today!

Meet the Staff: Sadie

We hope you've been enjoying meeting our staff members through our blog. We've had a lot of fun writing these posts! Today we'd like you to meet Sadie:

How long have you been a consultant at Madeleine's Daughter? I've worked here for 2 years as a bridal consultant

Who is your favorite designer/dress? I have an obsession with Monique Lhuillier and Jenny Packham

How would you describe your approach in helping a bride find her dress? I try to take the "sales" aspect out of the appointment. Sure, you are going to be purchasing a dress, and yes I will stay within your budget, but if you focus less on pricetags, you will be surprised at what a great experience and fun you can have here at our store. I focus more on helping to create and find the perfect "look" than trying to sell you on something you will be regretting in two months. If you go into the appointment with an open mind to find your dress, you will be shocked at what you can accomplish.

What is your most memorable experience at Madeleine's Daughter? I have a combination answer: the big moments like all of the consultants traveling to NYC for Bridal Fashion Week and the smaller moments like the meet-up/brainstorming sessions in the Bridal Closet.

In one word, descirbe what it's like to have an appointment with you. Memorable

What is your favorite type of bridal accessory? I can only pick one?!?! Not a chance! I love veils, shoes, statement earrings, headbands (anything by Maria Elena)!

What advice do you have for a bride coming to Madeleine's Daughter to find her dress? Be open to finding a dress. The two most common phrases we hear are, "I never thought I would end up with something like this!" and "I thought finding a dress would be so much harder!" We are here to help you, so let us help you find something amazing.

What is your favorite thing about working in the bridal industry? The look on a bride's face when she realizes she has found the dress she wants to wear on her wedding day. Oh, and all the pretty dresses!!!

Coffee or tea? Coffee
White, milk or dark chocolate? Dark chocolate.
Cats or dogs? Dogs, especially a Weimeraner named Mathilde

Check back again soon for more of our amazing staff!

Meet Our Bride: Tiffani

Having been in business for over 35 years, you can imagine we sometimes see a familiar face in the form of a former bride of ours in the store. Sometimes it's a bride looking for a dress to wear for her vow renewal ceremony. Other times, we see our former brides with their newly engaged sisters and best friends. They had an amazing experience finding their dress here, so why not recommend us to the people they love? Our bride Tiffani is one of those loved ones who came here because of her sister's experience in our store:

Tiffani writes, “The dress was the first thing I bought when we decided to have a destination beach wedding.  I bought a dress on a whim and decided that it would do.  I was never quite satisfied with my selection, and with time-a-ticking until the big day, I came to Madeleine’s Daughter.  My sister had purchased her wedding gown from Madeleine’s the year before, and having gone through the process with her, I knew that this was where I needed to go to have the experience I wanted and find the perfect dress!  My bridal consultant really understood what I was looking for, and with each dress I could picture myself looking the way I had imagined.  By the 3rd or 4th dress that I tried on and I had my ah-ha moment….with my Pronovias gown on, I finally felt like a true bride!  The staff was excellent and very accommodating to my time crunch situation.  At the time I was living out of state, so they made it very easy for me to have fittings and alterations around a tight schedule.  The dress was everything I had hoped for, and I felt beautiful getting married on the sandy beach of Mexico.   My entire experience with Madeleine’s Daughter was great – my only regret is not having come to you in the first place! Thank you!”

What brought you to Madeleine's Daughter? Was it a friend or relative who also found her dream dress here? We would love to hear your story, so please email us to tell us all about it! And don't forget to send pictures!

Juhree's Journal

Our store manager, Juhree Ross, is one of the best in the industry, so we thought it would be fun (and informative) to have her write a blog post every now and then. Her nearly 13 years at Madeleine's Daughter have definitely made her one of the most experienced staff members here and her leadership in our shop is invaluable.

For her first "Juhree's Journal" post, we'd like to let you get to know her a little bit. As this series continues throughout the year, we'd like to encourage you to ask her any question you can think of that might help you in your experience finding your dream wedding gown. All you have to do is leave a comment below or send us an email.

To help you get to know Juhree a little better, we took a few minutes to have her answer some general questions about herself and her experience working at Madeleine's Daughter.

How long have you been working at Madeleine's Daughter? I've been here for over 12 years. I started as a bridal consultant and over the years was promoted to Manager and then to Store Manager.

Who is your favorite designer/dress? Like many of our consultants here, I'm obsessed with Jenny Packham. Her designs are truly unique- there isn't a single other designer doing what Jenny Packham is doing. I'm really proud to be the only store in New England that carries her bridal line.

You used to work as a bridal consultant before being promoted to Store Manager. What was your approach in helping a bride find her dream dress? I always tried to get to know my brides so I could figure out what kind of bride they wanted to be. Then I'd find them a dress that not only fits their personality, but that looks amazing on them.

What is your most memorable experience at Madeleine's Daughter? When I first started, I was working with a bride who I just "clicked" with... but she tried on tons of dresses and wasn't having any luck. She had come in with a specific idea and she liked the dresses, but nothing stood out to her. We had such similar personalities and had been chatting the whole time, and at the end she asked me just to show her my favorite dress. I was almost embarrassed to show her because it was so different than her taste, but I did... and she loved it! It was "the one" for her and it made me so happy to have truly had an influence on how she could feel on her wedding day.

What is your favorite type of bridal accessory? Veils

What advice do you have for a bride coming to Madeleine's Daughter to find her dress? Trust your gut... choosing yoru dress isn't a decision, it's a feeling. If you want to be impulsive about it, then that's a sign that it's "the one!"

What is your favorite thing about working in the bridal industry? The amazing people I work with- brides AND co-workers!

Have you had the opportunity to meet Juhree? Maybe she helped you find your dress? Leave a comment below and tell us all about it!

Meet Our Bride: Brooke

You may have noticed that we've been featuring our very own brides here on the blog and today we'd like to highlight another beautiful bride of ours- Brooke. She sent us some great photos from her big day and we're so excited to share one of them for a lot of reasons. First of all, Brooke looked completely stunning in her gorgeous v-neck gown and ribbon-edge veil. Second, her bridesmaids looked amazing- they wore a rich midnight blue dresses.Third, the groomsmen not only looked dapper in tan suits, but they also sported Converse All-Stars instead of dress shoes- a trend we are loving lately!

Brooke writes, “My experience at Madeleine's Daughter was so great.  I was really worried about going dress shopping because I am a bigger girl and I was so scared that I would have to go into bridal shops and be trying to squeeze into a size 2.  Not the case at all at Madeline's Daughter.  They had a great selection of dresses in larger sizes, and my consultant made me feel so comfortable.  After trying on about 4 dresses that were beautiful but just not quite me, I tried on a dress that I probably never would have picked out on my own.  Once I put it on, I knew right away that was it! It flattered in all the right places. I got my dress tailored there as well, and every time I came in for a fitting, everyone there made me feel so beautiful! I was so happy to have found a dress that fit my body and my personality so well! Thank you all so much for making it such a wonderful experience that I will cherish forever!"

Thank you, Brooke, for sharing your experience and your photos! The entire party looked wonderful and we're so happy to have been a part of that!

If you are a Madeleine's Daughter bride and you would like to share your experience and some photos, please email us! We love nothing more than hearing from our brides!
