Cozy, Fuzzy Winter Wedding Accessories

We love winter weddings. It's an adventurous bride who will get married in the middle of winter in New England, but that courage pays off in spades with beautiful snow-covered photos. Of course, since most bridal gowns don't offer a lot of coverage over the arms and shoulders, if you're getting married in the winter, you need to invest in an extra accessory or two. We love cozy, fuzzy capes and shrugs and jackets. In fact, we recently got a new, gorgeous capelet in the store that is the perfect winter wedding accessory:

Were you a winter-bride? What did you wear with your gown to keep the chill out? Leave a comment and tell us all about it!

Meet Our Bride: Kathryn

We often hear how surprised people are when they walk through our front doors for the first time. They're surprised at the atmostphere, at the selection we offer, at the quality of the service they received- they're surprised by a lot of things. Pleasantly surprised, that is. Maybe it comes from having less-than-great experiences elsewhere, or just not expecting much from a bridal salon in a small seacoast New Hampshire town, but ultimately, we're always happy to pleasantly surprise our brides and their friends and family with an exceptional experience. This was the case for Kathryn:

Here's how she tells it:

“I came up to Madeleine's Daughter for a Pronovias trunk show and was pleasantly surprised with the store.  The main salon and the dressing rooms were comfortable and spacious and both my friends and I felt comfortable and welcomed into the store. My consultant was very friendly and really listened to what I wanted in a dress. While I had a pretty good idea of what I was looking for, she was knowledgeable about what the store had in stock and brought me a variety of options that combined all of the features that I was looking for in a dress. Once I had made my final choice, I opted to purchase my dress from Madeleine's Daughter instead of from the Pronovias Flagship store in New York City, because I really appreciate the personal attention that I received on my visit. Thank you for helping me feel beautiful for my husband!”

Hearing from our brides and seeing their photos is so inspiring to us. Email us today if you want to share your story with us!

Don't Forget the Flower Girl!

Shopping for your dress is obviously super memorable and of course picking out your bridesmaid dresses is also a lot of fun. But don't forget the last little girl in your party- the flower girl! Flower girl dresses are just the sweetest, most precious dresses in our store and we absolutely love seeing a little flower girl as she and her family shop for her "dream dress."

We carry several lines of flower girl dresses, so there is bound to be something that works for your wedding. Lots of brides like to use the flower girl dress as an option to create a "mini-me." For example, one of our brides had selected the Maggie Sottero gown called Mona Lisa Royale as her wedding gown:

When shopping for her flower girl dress, it was immediately apparent that this Joan Calabrese style was the perfect miniature version of the Maggie gown:

Perfect, right? The Seahorse Collection by Watters actually has a line of flower girl dresses called "Mini Me" that are intended to be paired with their bridal gowns.

Of course, not every dress has a perfect miniature version, so in that case you just need to make sure your flower girl is wearing something she loves and that is comfortable for her. We love this adorable sequin dress from the Watters Seahorse Collection:

Another great option for flower girls is the Custom Event Collection by Us Angels. This line allows you to choose a dress and then customize the look of it with various sashes, ribbons, and flowers. This makes it easy to incorporate your wedding colors into the flower girl dress:

What are your favorite flower girl looks? Do you love a "mini me" or something unique that suits that particular flower girl? Leave a comment below and tell us what you think!

Meet Our Bride: Stephanie

You can obviously tell from our "Meet Our Bride" series this year that we absolutely LOVE hearing from our brides after the big day. Most brides send a photo or two, but what we really love is when we get the slideshow, or at least a whole lot of gorgeous photos. We adore seeing the whole look and how it all came together and we just can't get enough of the pictures. Stephanie was one of our brides who came through in spades where photos are concerned and we're excited to share them with you, too!

From start to finish, it looks like it was a beautiful day for the happy couple. Stephanie had such a great experience at Madeleine's that she's even sent some of her friends here. But I'll let her tell you what it was like finding her dream gown:

“My experience at Madeleine's Daughter was amazing. Everyone was so helpful and pleasant. My bridal consultant was knowledgeable and took the time to make sure that I found exactly what I was looking for. She helped me find my dream dress and made the entire process from picking out the gown to fittings and alterations fun and relaxed. I have recommended Madeleine's to several friends who have all purchased their gowns there and I always look forward to making a trip to Madeleine's with them. I will continue to recommend Madeleine's Daughter as a first and last stop to all of my family and friends. Thank you!”

If you're like Stephanie and you have a great story and even greater photos to share, email us today! You never know when it might be YOU featured on our blog!

Encore!

The 2nd-dress trend is growing at a mile a minute. We can't keep enough reception/rehearsal/exit dresses in the store for all the brides who want to have that 2nd look on their wedding night. Fortunately for us, Watters & Watters has created a whole new line dedicated to the 2nd dress phenomenon, appropriately called "Encore."

The dresses are beautifully made and there is literally something for everyone. Additionally, if you would rather a full-length dress, each one is available in a long version at a minimal charge. Our favorites are the lace ones:

Gardenia

Posey

Hydrangea

Camellia

Iris

Trust me when I say that as great as these dresses look now, the pictures are really not doing them justice. One of our favorite things about this line is the versatility of it. The color combinations are practically endless, so incorporating colors from your wedding is actually really simple. The lace comes in six different colors- white, ivory, blush, dove, navy and black, but that's not the exciting part. The exciting part are the lining options- Watters offers 30- yes, you read that right- 30 different colors for the lining. Also, for the dresses with a ribbon at the waist, there are 20 different color options for that detail as well! The possibilities of color combinations are amazing. And you can even go online and look at different color combinations for each dress. We made a few just for fun:

This version of Camellia is so feminine! We chose the blush lace, cameo lining and shell pink ribbon. So pretty in pink!

For the bride who loves color, we created this version of Hydrangea using ivory lace, fuchsia lining and a plum ribbon. So fun!

For the bride who wants a sultry look, consider Posey in all black. It's sleek, sexy and an LBD you'll wear over and over again!

The Encore Collection is a sampling of the dresses we have available in our store for brides to wear for their rehearsal, reception or just as an exit dress, but it's far and away the most versatile and customizable option. The dresses can take a couple of months to come in, so don't wait until the last minute to create yours. Call us today to set up an appointment to come and try some on!

Maria Elena Trunk Show

As a bride, don't you want to wear something that could be passed down for generations and worn by brides in your family for years and years? Obviously, it's not always possible to wear a gown from your mother or grandmother. Besides sizing differences, there's also the issue of the fabric wearing thin over the years that just makes it impractical if not impossible.

Jewelry and headpieces, on the other hand, can be passed down for generations if they are high quality. They are often more timeless in terms of style as well.

Maria Elena started making bridal accessories because she wanted her daughter to have a headpiece that could become an heirloom. What resulted from her first project was the company that she runs and designs for still today- Maria Elena Headpieces.

Headbands, hair combs, veils, fascinators, purses, rosaries, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, belts, sashes, cuff links- Maria Elena designs it all. And because she truly wants these pieces to become heirlooms, they are guaranteed for life. Should a rhinestone ever pop out or a clasp break, she'll fix it free of charge.

The intricate designs are unlike anything else you'll find, so schedule an appointment today for the trunk show and come pick out the perfect heirloom accessories for your wedding day.

Meet Our Bride: Kayla

Madeleine's Daughter has been in business for 37 years, so it stands to reason that we would have seen multiple generations come through our doors. This was the case for Kayla and her mom:

Here's the story as she tells it:
“I had a fabulous experience, from the beginning to end, when I picked up my gown. My mom's wedding dress was the first dress she tried on at Madeleine's Daughter about 27 years ago, and we thought it would be special if I had the same experience. And I did!! My consultant worked with my mom, sister, and me to find the perfect dress. She listened to our price range, considered my likes and dislikes, and pulled a great selection of dresses to try on. The first dress I tried on was the one!! She brought out accessories, headpieces and different veils to accompany my taste. She made suggestions and offered useful tips for everything from planning the wedding to planning my look. I felt like she really got to know me and my family too. In fact, my dress is almost an exact replica of my Barbie's dress that I had growing up... it was crazy to see when I returned home and thought of it! I was excited to share this experience with my consultant. In fact, my sister said that she would like to have her help in the future when she plans her own wedding! She made us all feel so welcome! Thank you!”
What a great story! It's so awesome for Kayla and her mom to have had such great experiences at the same store so many years apart. Who knows? Maybe Kayla's daughter will shop for her wedding gown here someday.

Featured Bridal Vendor: Jardiniere

Besides the bride in her beautiful gown, the next detail at a wedding that always takes my breath away is the flowers. We often have flowers by Jardiniere here in our store- whether it's an employee getting them from someone special or even our customers receiving flowers from their fiance (classy touch, guys), we see amazing bouquets and arrangements lovingly crafted by Jardiniere all the time. But it's stated the best on their website:

"It all started in New York City, when our flower-loving founder Kathie Colella began a private client flower business based on the fresh idea of using only the best blooms on the market in her arrangements.

Her floral creations quickly became the toast of the town – servicing clients from Park Avenue to the Hamptons. After falling in love over a bouquet of roses herself, Kathie moved from the city to New Hampshire where she planted the seeds that would become Jardiniere Flowers. With a fantastic staff of artists and designers and an unrelenting passion for flowers, Kathie continues to offer the finest flora available.

At Jardiniere, an appreciation of nature’s beauty, creative design, artistic precision, and a love of flowers are always the order of the day."

I'll let these photos speak for themselves. I think you'll agree that words can't adequately describe how beautiful these flowers are:

Flowers are such an important part of the wedding day- not only do they provide a beautiful element of the decor, but they are the final touch to the overall look of the bridal party. Call Jardiniere today to get started designing the flowers for your big day. You won't regret it!

Meet Our Bride: Sarah

It's amazing how far some of our brides will travel to shop for their bridal gown. Sarah came all the way from Nova Scotia and we're so happy that it was worth the trip for her:

Here's her story:
"I want to thank Madeleine's for such an outstanding experience! At the time of my engagement I was living in Nova Scotia, but I had friends who insisted that I check out Madeleine's before I chose my gown. I am so happy that I made the trip! My bridal consultant was amazing and really listened to what I wanted. Not only did she find my dream dress almost immediately (it was the second dress I tried on!) but she also had me try on a few other different styles just so that I didn't have any lingering doubts about my selection. When I left Madeleine's I knew that I had made the right selection for me, and I could not wait to get home to tell my fiancé that I had found the dress that I was going to wear when I married the man of my dreams. Thank you for being so welcoming to me and my guests! It truly was an experience that I will not soon forget!"

Meet Our Bride: Ann Marie

Madeleine's Daughter has been in business for 37 years, so it's reasonable for us to see multiple customers from the same family over the years. It's really fun to see our former brides come in with their sisters, sisters-in-law, aunts, cousins, mothers, etc. This was the case for Ann Marie:

Here's Ann Marie's story: “I had a great experience at Madeleine's Daughter! My sister got her dress there and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. The quality of the gowns is exceptional and the service is superior of any other bridal salon out there. My consultant knew my style as soon as I walked in the door. I tried on lots of dresses and chose this Kenneth Pool dress. The in house seamstress was great and very experienced. I couldn’t tell you how many people have asked me where I got it and send everyone to Madeleine’s Daughter!”

Gorgeous photo, gorgeous bride, and we love that it's a family tradition now! Are you one of multiple family members who found their gown at Madeleine's? We would be thrilled to hear from you! Email us today!

Shoesday Tuesday: Not the Shoes!

It's been a while since we had a Shoesday Tuesday post, but despite that, I'm not even going to talk about shoes today! But I do promise to post a picture of a gorgeous shoe, at the very least.

Today I want to talk about all the other things your shoes might need in order to be as comfortable and functional as possible on the big day. These might not be the most glamorous things you'll wear on your wedding day, but they are the types of things that help your shoes fit and feel great. And let's be honest, feeling great is ultra important on your wedding day!

Pictured from left to right- Sole Mates, Heavenly Heelz, Strappy Strips

Pictured from left to right: Tip Toes, Killer Kushionz

First up, I want to talk about Sole Mates. These little gems are your best friend if you're getting married outside. They are clear plastic pieces that slide onto the heel of your shoe and provide you with a wider, more stable base. Is your ceremony in a beautiful field, but you don't want to sink into the ground through your entire walk down the grassy aisle? Sole Mates will be your saving grace!

Here's that AMAZING shoe I promised to show you!

Brides put a lot of thought and often a lot of money into their shoe choice, so it only make sense to protect them and take good care of them on the big day. Sole Mates will keep that beautiful ivory silk heel from getting scuffed up or covered in dirt. We often have brides purchase these little miracle-workers for all their bridesmaids, too. It's amazing how well they work!

All the other items- the Heavenly Heelz, Strappy Strips, Tip Toes and Killer Kushionz are designed to cushion and provide comfort. Here's a breakdown of how each item funtions:

Heavenly Heelz: If your shoe is the tiniest bit too big, but not quite so big that you need to go up a size, Heavenly Heelz will fill in the gap and prevent your shoes from slipping off.

Strappy Strips: You know how sometimes your strappy high heels will sort of dig into your skin and give you a nasty blister? Strappy strips keep that from happening. They're tiny and fit on even the daintiest straps to make them so much more comfortable.

Tip Toes: Walking in high heels can be really hard on the ball of your foot, so try Tip Toes to give just that part of your foot a little extra cushion.

Killer Kushionz: For shoes that are a little too stiff and don't have a lot of cushion under the entire foot, try Killer Kushionz. They don't take up a lot of space in your shoes like a traditional insert, but they still provide you with a soft cushion under your foot. Your feet will thank you!

What kind of issues did you encounter with your bridal shoes? Did you find a solution? Leave a comment below and tell us all about it!

We want our brides to feel comfortable coming here not only for the dress, but for anything they need- bridesmaid dresses, jewelry, a veil, pretty much anything! Lace, Lace, Lace

Lace is one of those mysterious textiles that is simply stunning and oh-so coveted, especially by brides. There's something about lace that just makes a girl feel like a bride. Even if she ends up in a plain gown without a bit of lace on it, a bride will then often find a way to incorporate lace with her accessories like her veil or a bolero jacket. Brides love lace- it's just a fact. Lace only seems to be gaining popularity, so in an effort to help you find the perfect lace gown for your wedding day, we've put together this blog to help inform you of what is out there.

The trickiest thing about lace is its cost. Lace is expensive, and high quality lace is REALLY expensive. To illustrate the various costs of lace, we've put together some photos of lace gowns in our store and the general price range they fall into.

One of the most frequent requests we get in our store is for a lace gown with some type of strap or cap sleeve. V-neck sleeveless gowns are often requested, too.

Obviously, the bigger the budget, the more options available to you, however, if lace is something you want, we DO have something for every budget. For the bride looking to spend less than $1,000, we have several amazing bridesmaid gowns including the one pictured above. Many bridesmaid gowns are available in white or ivory, and are as beautiful and elegant as many bridal gowns. You probably didn't even realize the gown on the left was a bridesmaid dress until I told you so.

When a bride pictures herself in lace, it usually isn't just in small bits- she wants lace from head to toe. Slim-fitting silhouettes are far and away the most popular shapes for lace gowns. Again, we have something for everyone and every price point:

The dress on the left is from the Encore Collection by Watters and is available in full length for a small additional charge, so don't be deterred by the length in the photo. The other three dresses show the variety in necklines available- there is everything from sweetheart to high necklines and everything in between.

Not every lace-loving bride wants a slim silhouette- we get plenty of brides looking for lace AND a full skirt. Again, there are lots of options. However, once you start getting into fuller dresses, the lowest price point tends to disappear as you can see:

While there is something out there for every style and price point, sometimes the budget doesn't always match up with the wishes of the bride. To help you in your search, check out the list below. It will help you narrow your search and find the perfect lace dress within your budget. Good luck and most of all remember to have fun shopping! Finding your bridal gown should be a great experience!

For lace under $1,000:

For lace $1,000- $2,000:
- Wtoo

For lace $2,000- $4,000:

For lace over $4,000:
- Alvina Valenta
