What are the signs of a $4000 gown and up…

We know this is a question that most people are curious of but have probably not asked.  Well we figured we might as well help you with the answer.

A $4000 gown and up can be determined by these attributes:

-Natural fabrics (silks, cottons, etc.)

-Not a bright white color…where as they are made of natural fabrics they will have an ivory hue to them.

-The quality of the fabric!  The feel, the touch the OOOO that MUST be silk!

- An impeccable fit that  contours the female form to a “T”!  Pattern & construction, they tend to have a little more of a tailored look to them.

-A small seam allowance along the inside of the dress that makes for less bulk on the outside.

-Higher end gowns use intricate laces  such as alencon, chantilly, embroidered lace, etc.

-Stunning embellishments that looks like they came from a jeweler.

-Unique attributes that shout “I’m COUTURE” whether it is an architectural element or a whimsical feature like a watteau train, unique flowers or even embellished belts.

A lot of times they will be lighter in weight and naturally hug the body.  The linings will be softer and feel great against the skin and the fabric will naturally fall around the body. These are traits that you won’t be able to see in a photo, they are things that you will need to experience by trying them on.  We would love to show you what we mean, make an appointment to come in and see for yourself.

Top 10 things to know about shopping for your gown…

We found this amazing article in the newest edition of Brides Magazine that we found to be an extremely helpful tool when shopping for your gown.  Take a look at the top ten tips before you head out for a fun filled girl’s day out of bridal gown shopping!

1- A wedding gown is rarely made-to-measure, unless its custom made.  In most cases, when a salon takes your 9101measurements it’s so they can order the right size for you.

2-The difference between a wedding gowns  could be that one costs $500 and the other one may cost $1500that could very well be the fabric, synthetic versus natural.  Natural will always be more expensive.

3-The latest gown styles take about a year to get from the runway to you.  Big name designers show their designs at New York Fashion Week every April and October, and those dresses are usually for sale in salons about 6 months later.  Then it can take approximately 6-8 months to process your personal order.

4-Wear clean underwear, people will be seeing you semi-naked! (we got a laugh at that one!)

5-What is great about a trunk show?  Most bridal salons don’t carry a designer’s entire collection, but at a trunk show, the entire collection is dd316usually available to be touched and tried on.  Often the designer sends a representative and on occasion the designer will come (which is really a rare treat). There are usually special events or  deals when it comes to trunk shows so don’t hesitate to ask.

6-Most brides spend about 8-to10% of their wedding budgets on their total look (gown, shoes, headpiece, etc.)  But that average accounts for a variety of real world scenarios, not all brides fit into that scenario it could be anywhere from 1-20% in all actuality.

7-The “deal” with samples.  Bridal salons do not carry gowns in each size, instead they have a sample size.  Within the gowns and designers that could range anywhere from a size 6 to a size 22.   If you are looking for a specific size just ask.

8-Need a dress yesterday?  We always have sample gowns that can be sold directly from the rack!  You only need to find that one perfect gown and ask if you are able to purchase that particular one.

9-Shop by this rule: Nothing in fashion arianeis out of fashion!  Have an irrational fear of looking at  your wedding portrait 20 years from now and asking…OMG what was I thinking?  There are so many attributes about a wedding gown that are never going to disappear, and there are some silhouettes that are always going to be timeless…so if that is your fear…have no fear there is always something!

10-You should make an appointment!   If you are shopping seriously and want proper attention making an appointment is a necessity at almost all salons these days.  There are even salons that won’t even let you look around at things if you don’t have one.

Something Blue…

Today we have part 2 in the Something Blue series we started last week and our color choice this time is Blue Curacao.  Nothing says that the something blue has to be what we consider to be the traditional blue color, so we thought why not throw caution to the wind and use a great vibrant blue color like Blue Curacao!  Nothing more gorgeous while we wait for spring than to look at some inspirations in a rich color pallet.  So take a look and see for yourself…would you choose this as your Something Blue?  We say why not…just go for it!

2011 Wedding Trends…

Part 2 of our 2011 Wedding Trends Series has some awesome things if we do say so ourselves!

The first item we have been told has been just a vision at weddings all around are centerpieces that focus on being fun.  Like taking flowers and  putting them into different sized or shaped vases or containers.   Or maybe even using a unique filler in the bottom of a vase, candy isn’t such a bad thing either…its also something that has a dual purpose!  Its a simple yet sophisticated look and not too overly expensive.  Like the ones below.

Our next trend is the Groom’s cake, yes we have discussed that before and we were apparently on the right track…there has been an influx in the amount of Groom’s cakes being seen at weddings.  Below there are just a couple of the variations out there available to you.  Do a little research and see if it will fit into your day.

Our third trend would be a delicious one!  Food stations and by that we are referring to Candy, Hot cocoa, ice cream & toppings and fruit crisps!  All of which could be incorporated into the dessert portion of your reception and eaten along side the cake or just eaten in stride while guests mingle.  No matter which way you choose to go…its a delicious way!  Some of these set ups are just fantastic, take a look for yourself.

Our last 2011 trend for this edition is the non-alcoholic specialty drink.  As we all know not everyone at a wedding will take part in the spirits, so to ensure that they can still have something just as good and tasty a non-alcoholic specialty drink is the route to go.  Like the fabulous looking drinks we found!  YUMMY!!

           Berry-Lemon Sparklers                    Spiced Pomegranate Sparkler

That’s all we have for today’s edition of 2011 Wedding Trends, keep checking back through out the year to see what else we have discovered is being made “trendy”!

Bustling a train…

We all know that some trains can be the focal point of your gown and just an exquisite dream as you walk down the aisle to your groom.  However, what do you do with it after the wedding ceremony?  You could hold it and drape it over your arm, but after awhile that would become too tedious.  So…the only other option is to “bustle” it!

Below we have a couple of the bustles that we offer here at our salon pictured.

Take a look:
